Autumn in Minnesota

The fall colors are at peak this week in Minnesota. The leaves are falling as the temperature drops. Squirrels and deer are preparing for winter as the geese above fly south. Flowers and crops are at their seasonal end since the frost has been visiting in the evenings. As we all await the first snow, we take a breath of brisk fall air and admire the last splendor of autumn.

Flea Market Prints

I enjoyed a very large flea market last weekend and found more artwork for my small print collection. I love the variations of color, embossing and gold ink. Old postcards also have some of the most varied subjects, settings and illustration styles.

All three postcards have lovely illustrations and typography.
My favorite is the carriage on the left - so colorful.

This is a old-style print - 5-color with the extra color as gold.
The illustration is so whimsical and full of life - truly is telling a story.

These three postcards are quite old - black cat was mailed in 1911.
The rooster and hen was mailed in 1908 -
it has very detailed embossing and a large color palette.

Summer Fledglings

Three fledglings took flight this week. Their fuzzy feathers, small beaks and high-pitched chirps resound from a willow tree in the garden. They stay together as a family even outside of the nest.

Flea Markets and Thrift Shops

Check out my latest finds from flea markets, thrift shops and antique stores.

Flea market finds - antique hair brush, dove-tail box, hard cover book and frame.

More flea market finds - door plates, keys, printed brick
and green glass salt and pepper shakers to add to my collection. Love it!

Antique store finds - vintage postcards to frame.

Thrift store finds - hard and soft cover books with excellent illustrations.
Picture frame and wall candle holders.

Antiques Galore

My family and I recently took a camping trip - turned antiquing adventure. We camped at a not-so-secluded campground and enjoyed some of the local flea markets, thrift shops and antique stores. Here is some of my favorite booths and items.

Eclectic Dress - fun and creative use of dress form, burlap, chalkboard and old pages.

Vintage Huffy bike

Great idea for license plates - spell out anything!

Metal bins used to contain smaller items.

Paper racks used for license plates, artwork and comics.

Vintage bird cage - love the glass water feeders attached.

Really fun arrangement of booth. White elephant is the focal point - drawing your eye in towards other fun items.

So true.

Steampunk dress form is very cool.

Stylish display of jewelry, clocks and purses.

Amusing light bulb lamp.

"Nothing can bring you peace but yourself." So true.
I love the chalkboard cats on lower right.

This display was my favorite at the antique store - tub turned jewelry-making table.

Variety of lamps

"Believe in Yourself" -  I love this new artwork - works really well with older items.
